Born in Bogota, Colombia, Officer Andrea Calderon migrated with her parents and two siblings to the United States in 2001 when she was 11 years old. In 2007, she graduated from Piper High School number three in her class. She then earned double Bachelor’s
Degrees (Criminal Justice and Psychology) from Florida Atlantic University in 2013, finishing in the top 20 percent of her graduating class. She also has a minor in Sociology.
Officer Calderon always wanted to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps and become a police officer. She enjoys the rewarding feeling of helping people and being of service to her community. She tenaciously pursued that dream by putting herself
through the Police Academy at Palm Beach State College. She attended classes at night, while holding a full-time job during the day as first an Investigator and then a Telecommunicator for the Palm Beach County School Board Police Department,
all the while being a mother to her beautiful daughter, Isabella, who is nine years old. Officer Calderon graduated the academy in 2017. She joined the Coconut Creek Police Department a short time later. She is often called on by her fellow officers
to translate since she is fluent in Spanish. She has also joined the instructor team for our Self-defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange (SAFE) courses—a self-defense and situational awareness training seminar geared toward women.
During her spare time, she enjoys working out, going to the range, and spending time with her family. Her five-year goal at the Coconut Creek Police Department is to make the SWAT Team, become a Field Training Officer (FTO), and ultimately become
a Detective focusing on Crimes Against Children. She will also be working hard to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Law Enforcement. Officer Calderon will soon complete her third year at CCPD and is
currently assigned to the night shift.
