Born in Bronx, New York, Lieutenant Fuentes is a graduate of Florida International University with a degree in public administration.
His career in law enforcement started in July 2005 when he was hired as a Financial Crime Investigator (non-sworn) with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), investigating Public Assistance Fraud. In December 2007, he was promoted to a sworn police officer with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as a Special Agent. He joined the City of Coconut Creek in February 2010 as a road patrol officer. In November 2010, he made the SWAT team. In December of 2012, he was promoted to Detective. In March 2016, he was promoted to the supervisory role of Road Patrol Sergeant, where he managed and mentored a unit of ten officers. On December 2016, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant (current role), where he supervised criminal investigations (CID), Background Investigations, Crime Scene Unit (CSU), Crime Analyst, and Victim Advocate. In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant following the retirement of Lieutenant Shawn Shelton. He has a three-year-old daughter, Catalina Amelia.
