Originally from Lindenhurst, NY and graduating from Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida, Detective Sergeant Joseph Jahrsdoerfer obtained his Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Florida State University in 1999. He began his career in law enforcement with the Coconut Creek Police Department in 2000 as a community service aide, before being promoted to patrol officer. In 2003, Sgt Jahrsdoerfer was selected as a field training officer and also joined the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. During his 20 years on the SWAT Team, he held the positions of operator, sniper, team leader, training coordinator, and executive officer. In 2008, he became a Motor Officer and Traffic Homicide Investigator, where he served for seven years. In 2015, he was transferred to the Employee Development Unit as a training officer and was responsible for agency-wide career education and professional development. In 2018, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Patrol Services. In September of 2023, he was selected to be one of two Detective Sergeants in the Criminal Investigations Section.
