Sgt. Barbara Hendrickx

Sgt. Barbara Hendrickx

Sergeant Barb Hendrickx is the latest feature in our Blue Honor Series. A Florida native, she grew up in Naples. She was a gifted volleyball player and played collegiately at Florida Atlantic University where she graduated with a Bachelors of the Arts Degree in Political Science. While she started her career in law enforcement as a Service Aide at the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in 1989, she found her early calling in loss prevention. She worked as an Asset Protection Specialist for Target stores, earning several promotions along the way, with her final position in retail being the District Operations Manager for The Home Depot. She supervised all of its Miami area locations.

Despite making a good living in the loss prevention field, she felt something was leading her back into law enforcement. She wanted to help people and serve the community. She joined the Coconut Creek Police Department in 2013 as a Patrol Officer, then became a Field Training Officer and a Crisis Negotiator. She became a Detective, and one year ago, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. She now leads the department’s crime prevention and community services initiatives, helping organize such popular events as “Pizza with the PoPo!” and “Ice Cream with a Cop.” She also serves at the Executive Director of Do The Right Thing of Coconut Creek, a non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing the great kids in our community.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, coaching her children in their sporting events, boating, and exercising.
